For a perennial force in collegiate volleyball, the next season is rarely just about replacing production. It is about preserving a standard. UW Whitewater enters 2026 with that familiar burden, and Grace Bohnert is the latest addition to a roster trying to stay ahead of the curve rather than chase it.
Bohnert will compete for the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater volleyball team when the 2026 season begins on September 1 at Russell Arena. The move gives the Warhawks another piece as they prepare for a campaign that already comes with the weight of expectation: a 26-8 finish in 2025, a 36th postseason appearance and a preseason ranking of sixthteenth in the AVCA Preseason Poll. They are also projected third in the WIAC, which says plenty about both the respect they command and the competition around them.
A roster built to reload, not rebuild
The Warhawks are not entering 2026 empty-handed. They bring back two returning AVCA All-Americans, and they also add two transfers and nine freshmen. That blend matters because it suggests a roster that is being shaped with both continuity and depth in mind. For a program that has spent years operating near the top of Division III volleyball, the challenge is less about finding talent than arranging it in a way that still works once the matches tighten.
That is where Bohnert’s arrival fits into the larger picture. A single addition does not define a season, but it can matter in a program where every rotation detail matters. The Warhawks do not need a dramatic reset. They need enough freshness to keep pace with the demands of another long run, and enough reliability to make sure the standard does not slip.
The schedule gives them no room to ease in. After the September 1 opener, conference play begins on September 24 against UW-Stout, and the regular season closes on November 7 at current N° 1 UW-Oshkosh. That is a reminder that the WIAC will ask immediate questions, and probably uncomfortable ones.
Still, the bigger story is straightforward: UW Whitewater remains positioned like a contender. The numbers point to a team with proven quality, a strong preseason standing and enough roster movement to suggest the next version of the Warhawks may look different without looking diminished. Bohnert is part of that equation, and in Whitewater, Wisconsin, that is usually how another run begins.
