Apple Adds Iphone Handoff Feature for Two iPhones, One Number

Apple’s iPhone Handoff feature would let users switch between two iPhones using the same phone number. That would matter most for people carrying a spare iPhone or swapping devices during travel or repair.

MacRumors and iOS 27

MacRumors reported the detail three months ago as part of smaller iOS 27 changes Apple skipped on stage at the WWDC keynote in June. The setup was described as two iPhones with one number, with swapping between them as the presumed mechanic.

Apple Watch comparison

MacRumors compared the reported behavior to the way an iPhone and a cellular Apple Watch already share a number. That comparison points to a transfer-style arrangement, not necessarily two active phones behaving like one merged device.

June beta timing

The June report said the developer beta was already live. It also said a public beta was planned for July, full features were arriving in September, and general release was expected this fall.

Developer beta gap

MacRumors also said it was not clear whether the capability was functional in the developer beta at the time. That leaves the practical question for users simple: the number-sharing behavior was described, but the working state of the feature was not nailed down.
