Jonathan Melendez, the keyboardist for Camilo Séptimo, was found dead with three members of his family in an apartment in Atizapán de Zaragoza near Mexico City. The State of Mexico Prosecutor’s Office said the deaths became public on Wednesday, Sept. 2, after police had reported the discovery of four deceased victims the day before.
One of the dead was a 35-year-old pregnant wife, and the victims also included a 3-year-old daughter, a 38-year-old male identified by the initials J.S.M.O., and a 21-year-old female. A 6-year-old child was found alive and unharmed inside the apartment in a residential complex.
Atizapán de Zaragoza case
The State of Mexico Prosecutor’s Office said, “The victims, a 38-year-old male, music producer and songwriter identified by the initials J.S.M.O., his 35-year-old pregnant wife, their 3-year-old daughter, and a 21-year-old female.” It also said, “Even a dog, the family pet, was found tied up.” Those details place the case inside one household, not across several locations, and make the surviving child part of the same scene investigators are now working through.
Jonathan “Honas” Meléndez had been one of Camilo Séptimo’s three official members since 2013. The band’s name became widely tied to his work over time, and the deaths now leave that history centered on a family apartment in Atizapán de Zaragoza rather than a stage or studio.
Omar García Harfuch arrests
Omar García Harfuch said two men were arrested in connection with the killings. He said one suspect was a business partner of one of the victims and “allegedly used that relationship of trust to gain access to the residence.”
That account points to how investigators say the suspects entered the home: through trust rather than force from outside.
