Rob Winterschladen Launches Vodafone TV In October — Vodafone Tv Vs Sky

Vodafone TV vs Sky moves into view in October, when VodafoneThree launches a bundled TV service in the UK. Rob Winterschladen says it is built as a single place for live TV, on-demand, streaming, gaming, music and apps, and that is the point: fewer subscriptions to juggle.

Winterschladen, VodafoneThree’s Consumer Director, called Vodafone TV “a family entertainment platform that brings together live TV, on-demand, streaming, gaming, music and all the apps on the Google Play Store.” The service will include Netflix, HBO Max and linear channels at launch, with a dedicated set-top box required and a companion app for watching or continuing on mobile.

Netflix and HBO Max

Netflix and HBO Max sit at the center of the launch, which gives VodafoneThree a way to sell two major streaming services inside a broader TV bundle. Will Morse, Vice President, Commercial Distribution & Operations, WBD UK & Ireland, said: “Partnering with Vodafone will bring HBO Max to even more UK customers, giving mobile and broadband users access to our award-winning movies and series at home via Vodafone TV and on the go.”

That package matters because VodafoneThree is not just adding another app tile. It is trying to turn separate subscriptions into one retail decision, and that makes pricing the real test when customers compare the bundle with Sky and Virgin or with buying services one by one.

Freely and Box Office

The Freely free-TV service is built into Vodafone TV, with legacy terrestrial channels and their on-demand content available through Freely. Vodafone Box Office also gives customers a way to buy movies inside the same ecosystem, while Disney+, YouTube Premium, DAZN and Prime Video can be added on a rolling 30-day basis.

That combination gives VodafoneThree breadth, but breadth alone will not move households. The question is whether a box that folds in Netflix, HBO Max, Freely, add-on streaming services and linear channels can undercut the cost of separate subscriptions while still feeling simpler to use.

October in the UK

October is when the first real comparison begins, because VodafoneThree will have to sell the package on value, not novelty. My view: if the company cannot make the monthly number feel disciplined against Sky and Virgin, the bundle becomes a feature list rather than a reason to switch.
