A 26-year-old woman died after being hit by a taxi on Aigburth Road in Liverpool, and a 41-year-old driver was arrested after stopping at the scene. She was taken to hospital and later pronounced dead.
Merseyside Police said the driver is being questioned in custody on suspicion of causing death by careless or inconsiderate driving while under the influence of drugs. The force is also examining CCTV from the area and asking for dashcam or doorbell footage from anyone who was on the road.

Det Sgt Andy Roper said the woman’s family had been informed. He said, “First and foremost my thoughts and those of my team remain with the woman's family at this sad time.”
He added, “Road death causes devastation for all those involved and it is our absolute priority to get answers for her family.” Roper also said, “Aigburth Road is a very busy road and we know at that time there would have been a large volume of vehicles including buses, taxis and delivery drivers, together with pedestrians, in the area.”
CCTV and footage
The taxi was a Toyota Voxy and the collision happened on the city-bound carriageway of Aigburth Road between Fulwood Road and Larkfield Road. Police are using that stretch of road as the focus for the witness appeal, which points to vehicles and pedestrians already in the area at the time.
The driver stopped at the scene, but police arrested him on suspicion of causing death by drug driving and questioned him on a separate careless or inconsiderate driving allegation. That leaves investigators trying to match what was seen on the road with what CCTV and any nearby footage show before the collision.
