Google introduced Gemini 3.8 Flash and Gemini 3.8 Flash Cyber, and it says 3.8 Flash is its best reasoning and coding model yet. The release keeps the same speed and low cost as 3.7 Flash. For developers, that means a faster model option without paying for the bigger frontier tier.
Google's third Flash release
Google said this is its third Flash release in six weeks. Three weeks ago, it released 3.7 Flash. That cadence matters because teams that build with Google’s fast models now have a new option to test for agentic work, coding, and reasoning before they settle on a production model.
Gemini 3.8 Flash is powered by the same foundational intelligence as the other release. Google also said both releases are accelerated by long-running agentic loops that recursively evaluate and refine the underlying models. In practice, that points to more model passes on hard tasks, not just one-shot answers, which is the kind of setup developers use when they want the model to keep checking itself.
3.8 Flash benchmarks
Google said Gemini 3.8 Flash outperforms most larger frontier models on DeepSWE v1.1 in solving complex engineering problems end to end. It also said the model outperforms 3.7 Flash and other frontier models in Vals Finance Agent V2 and Harvey's Legal Agent Benchmark. The clearest signal for builders is that Google is pitching a cheaper fast model that can compete on harder multi-step work instead of only simple prompts.
Google also said Gemini 3.8 Flash achieves 54.9% on HLE-Verified. That gives a floor for the model’s visible benchmark performance, but Google’s broader claim is still about workload fit rather than one score. The release is aimed at developers who want lower-cost reasoning and at trusted defenders who need the Cyber variant.
Fairwind Program access
Gemini 3.8 Flash Cyber is available to a set of trusted defenders via the Fairwind Program. Google says the coding and reasoning gains were driven in part by rigorous training in cybersecurity. That makes the Cyber release less like a general public model drop and more like a controlled distribution for security work, while Gemini 3.7 Flash remains fully supported for efficiency-first workloads.
The unresolved piece is access. Google has not laid out the exact eligibility criteria for the Fairwind Program, so teams that want Gemini 3.8 Flash Cyber will need that gate spelled out before they can plan deployments around it.
