The 22-year-old striker made his senior debut for Colchester United in November 2020 and went on to make nearly 150 senior appearances for the club. Because he is under the age of 24, Colchester United are owed compensation after his contract expired.

What Danny Cowley said

Colchester boss Danny Cowley said he expects the situation to be resolved quickly. He said he thinks Samson’s move will play out in the next couple of days and added that it will be financially beneficial for the club. Cowley also said he is pleased for Tovide, describing him as a good kid who has come through the academy.

Cowley added that Colchester are hopeful Tovide ends up at a club that will allow him to keep developing as a player.

Huddersfield link and Southend training

The move has been linked with Huddersfield Town, while Kieron Dyer said Tovide is at a club and compensation has been agreed. Dyer added that Tovide is up there now and negotiating, and said Southend United had missed out on the deal.

Tovide had been training with Southend United after leaving Colchester United, but they were no longer expected to sign him. With the move now edging closer, Colchester stand to benefit from compensation for a player who spent the key years of his development in their system.
