“The naked manicure is having a real moment because it feels so clean and understated,” Susan Carroll said. “We’ve had a lot of statement nails, nail art and bold colours over the past few seasons, so going back to something really natural feels fresh again.”
“There’s something very chic about a beautifully manicured nail where you can still see the natural nail underneath,” Carroll said. She said the look works best on a shorter, natural nail with a soft square or rounded shape, and that the nails can be left completely bare with just a really healthy shine.
For anyone copying the finish at home, the rules are simple: keep the nail short, keep the cuticles neat and hydrated, and do not bury the nail under colour. A very sheer nude, pink or milky shade can be used if a little more polish is needed, but Carroll said the key is not to build up too much colour. Cuticle oil before bed and a good hand cream do the maintenance work.
Dion’s September 1 outing is the clearest sign that the no-manicure manicure has moved from niche beauty language to a wearable default. Whether she chose the polish-free nails intentionally as part of the trend or simply wore them naturally is beside the point; the visual code is already set, and the cleanest version of the look is the one that is easiest to copy.
