Liverpool submitted its 25-man Premier League squad list for the first stage of the 2026-27 season, with Jacquet in the frame and Freddie Woodman among the homegrown names. The list can still change after the January transfer window closes, but only within the Premier League’s registration rules.
The squad includes 25 players, and eight were marked as homegrown: Conor Bradley, Luke Chambers, Jeremie Frimpong, Joe Gomez, Vitezslav Jaros, Isaac Mabaya, James McConnell and Freddie Woodman. That leaves Liverpool with room inside the rule that a club’s 25-man squad can contain no more than 17 players who do not meet the homegrown criteria.
The January transfer window opens on Friday January 1 and closes at 11pm GMT on Monday February 1. After that deadline, Liverpool can update the squad again, which is the only window that matters for this first-stage list. Kyrian Jacquet qualifying result sits outside football, but the registration process here follows the same basic logic of fixed entry lists and cut-off dates.
Freddie Woodman listed for Liverpool
Woodman’s inclusion matters because he is one of the eight players marked as homegrown, and homegrown status is what lets Liverpool fill out the full 25-man list under Premier League rules. The same category also applied to Bradley, Chambers, Frimpong, Gomez, Jaros, Mabaya and McConnell.
Premier League rules define a homegrown player as someone registered with any club affiliated to The Football Association or the Football Association of Wales for three entire seasons, or 36 months, before his 21st birthday or the end of the season in which he turns 21. Players born on or after January 1, 2005 are classed as U21 for the 2026-27 season and are not included on the 25-man squad lists.
Liverpool's 17-player limit
The practical constraint is simple: Liverpool may list up to 17 non-homegrown players and must make the remaining places, up to 25, homegrown. Based on the submitted squad, that means the club has used eight homegrown slots and must fit the rest of the list within the non-homegrown ceiling.
That is why the final composition matters more than the headline number. Liverpool listed Ronald Araujo, Bradley Barcola, Alisson Becker, Federico Chiesa, Hugo Ekitike, Wataru Endo, Cody Gakpo, Ryan Gravenberch, Alexander Isak, Milos Kerkez, Alexis Mac Allister, Giorgi Mamardashvili, Victor Munoz, Dominik Szoboszlai, Kostas Tsimikas, Virgil van Dijk and Florian Wirtz alongside the eight homegrown players, leaving the squad shape to be managed under the 17-player non-homegrown cap.
For Liverpool, the immediate takeaway is that the first-stage registration is in place and still adjustable after the January window closes. The question that follows is straightforward: how many of the 25 listed players will count as non-homegrown once the registration rules are applied in full?
