Spider noir is over after one season, and Prime Video has ended Nicolas Cage’s first regular TV role after eight episodes. The cancellation lands just as the series heads into the first weekend of Emmy ceremonies with 11 nominations, a rare position for a show that is already being pulled from the board.

Cage played Ben Reilly, a seasoned, down-on-his-luck private investigator in 1930s New York who is forced to grapple with his past life after a deeply personal tragedy. For the actor, it was his first-ever regular TV role, and for the series it was the clearest hook in Amazon’s partnership with Sony Pictures TV.
Spider-Noir premiered on the linear MGM+ channel on May 25 and started streaming on Prime Video the next day. Viewers could watch it in color or black and white, and the launch format gave the series a wider runway than a straight streaming drop.
2.6 billion minutes
According to Nielsen, Spider-Noir earned 2.6 billion viewing minutes in its first six weeks. That is the kind of audience total streamers usually keep around when they want to build franchise momentum, not shut down a title after a single season.
The series also carried a 92% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a 90% popcornmeter vote among fans, numbers that made the cancellation harder to read as a simple performance issue. One season was all it got despite the audience response, the awards attention, and the fact that it was the first Marvel-related series to premiere out of Amazon’s pact with Sony Pictures TV.
11 Emmy nominations
Spider-Noir collected 11 Emmy nominations, including Outstanding Production Design For A Narrative Period Or Fantasy Program One Hour Or More, Outstanding Title Design, Outstanding Sound Mixing For A Comedy Or Drama Series One Hour, Outstanding Sound Editing For A Comedy Or Drama Series One Hour, Outstanding Cinematography For A Series One Hour, Outstanding Stunt Performance, Outstanding Music Composition For A Series Original Dramatic Score, Outstanding Special Visual Effects In A Single Episode, Outstanding Stunt Coordination For Comedy Programming, Outstanding Prosthetic Makeup, and Outstanding Original Music And Lyrics. That nomination spread suggests the series landed with crafts branches as much as with audiences.
Why Prime Video ended Spider-Noir after that profile has not been explained. Amazon still has a second series from its partnership with Sony Pictures TV in development, and it is expected to be announced soon, so the reset looks less like a retreat from the deal than a narrowing of which Marvel characters will get a full series order next.
