Keaton and Freeman Since 1988
The film will reunite Keaton and Morgan Freeman on screen after almost four decades. Their last collaboration was Clean and Sober in 1988, and Angel is leaning on that pairing as it opens sales for a Western that already carries name recognition before cameras start rolling.
R. Dean McCreary wrote the film, which is described as a haunting Western thriller about a retired U.S. Marshal whose forty-year search for his wife’s killer leads him to an aging outlaw losing his memory and to a buried truth neither man may survive. That premise helps explain why the package is being sold early: buyers are being asked to back the concept, the cast and the market position before a finished film exists.
Angel’s first pre-sales move
Jared Geesey said Angel has spent the last two years building an international distribution network that has released Angel movies theatrically in more than 95 countries. He added, “Instead of waiting for a finished film, our partners can now come in early, and that funding helps get the films our Guild wants made.”
Geesey also said, “We’ll open international sales for Rode to Ruin at TIFF: The Market next week, and a Western with Michael Keaton and Morgan Freeman is a strong film to start with.” For Angel, this is more than a rights pickup: it is the company’s first move into pre-sales, and it uses a high-recognition reunion to test a sales strategy it has not run before.

Rode To Ruin is due to launch in 2027, but the start date for production has not been set yet. That gap leaves the sales effort doing the heavy lifting for now, with Angel opening international offers before the schedule is locked and before the film’s road to delivery is visible.
