Luke Browning will get another run in Williams machinery when he takes part in FP1 at the Italian Grand Prix in Monza on September 4 at 1230 local time. It will be Browning's second appearance of the season for Williams and another chance for the 24-year-old reserve driver to add mileage in the FW48.
Browning first appeared for Williams in FP1 at the 2024 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix after joining the Williams Driver Academy in 2023. He was promoted to reserve driver at the start of 2026, and this year he has already been scheduled for rookie sessions in Barcelona and Austria. An electrical issue forced him to sit out Barcelona, but he did get on track at the Red Bull Ring, where he finished P18 in FP1 and was three-tenths behind Alex Albon.
What Browning said about the opportunity
Browning said he is thrilled to have another chance to drive an FP1 session with Atlassian Williams F1 Team. He described it as a valuable opportunity to complete more laps in the FW48, deepen his understanding of the car and bring useful data and feedback back to Grove.
He also said each session teaches him something new and that he wants to take as much learning as possible from the outing to keep pushing both his own development and the team forward.
For Williams, the session matters for more than just Browning's development. Full-time drivers must step aside for a rookie in two practice sessions across the season, and the team can use Monza to collect data during a difficult year marked by late development and a clear lack of pace. Browning said his focus this weekend is on supporting Williams and helping maximise the result in Monza.
That makes the run a straightforward but important one: another mandated rookie outing, another chance for Browning to build experience, and another opportunity for Williams to learn something useful from FP1.
