But the broader trend since Josef Martínez tore his ACL in February 2020 has been one of more lows than highs for Atlanta United.
That is why the current run has been viewed so positively. Atlanta are on a three-match winning streak, their first since September 2021, after a long stretch in which momentum has been hard to build and even harder to keep.
Last weekend’s 2-0 loss to Charlotte FC on the road showed there is still work to do. But Embolo’s availability changes the tone of this trip. Atlanta have a fresh striker, a clearer attacking talking point and a chance to see whether the latest squad reshuffle can finally produce the goals they have been missing.
Saturday will not answer every question, but it will tell us something useful: whether Embolo can help Atlanta turn a difficult season into a more threatening one, and whether their recent run can survive a tougher test away at Inter Miami CF.
