Austin FC announced that David Booth and Garheng Kong have acquired non-controlling minority stakes in the club and joined its ownership group, adding two Austin-based investors while the club’s control structure stays the same.
Anthony Precourt remains Austin FC’s majority owner and retains operating control. The club said the new investment is intended to support its continued growth and evolution, a sign that the Verde & Black is broadening its ownership base without changing who runs the team day to day.
Who joined the ownership group?
Booth is the Founder and Chairman of Dimensional Fund Advisors and a longtime figure in the investment world. In the 1970s, he helped create one of the first index funds, and his career eventually grew into a firm with $1 trillion in assets. He also became an Austin FC season ticket holder after Q2 Stadium opened.
Kong founded HealthQuest Capital in 2012 and has spent more than two decades in health care and investment leadership roles. His background includes work with more than 40 companies, giving Austin FC another owner with a different kind of business perspective.
