Vernon Adams Jr. was expected to start after missing the last game with a head injury. His return gives The Calgary Stampeders a different look from the one Josh Love ran in the 28-23 win over Hamilton, when Love went 25-for-36 for 274 yards, one touchdown and one interception.
Calgary also brings a scoring profile that complicates the matchup. The Stampeders were the highest-scoring team in the league at 36.9 points per game, but they had not beaten a team with a winning record this year, and they were last in the West Division as the only team in the division under.500.

Those numbers help explain why Edmonton sat atop the West Division before the Sept. 7 game. The total leans on two defenses and a recent pattern. Calgary ranked second-to-last in the CFL and allowed 31.8 points per game, while Edmonton’s defense allowed 25.4 points per game and had given up 31 total points in its last two games.
