Tottenham Hotspur is back dealing with a familiar problem: information from inside the club appearing well before it should. This time, Roberto De Zerbi’s first three Premier League team line-ups were available on social media and in WhatsApp groups and message boards 24 hours before matches, renewing concerns about how much is getting out.
What the leak involved
The issue is not just general gossip. The material being shared included team selection details, and the wider concern around Tottenham Hotspur has also involved medical information. In practical terms, that means opposition sides can get a clearer sense of what the club is planning before game day even arrives.
That matters because team selection is one of the most sensitive pieces of pre-match information a club can protect. If it is circulating a full day before kickoff, it removes a layer of uncertainty that managers usually want to preserve until close to the match.
Postecoglou had already raised the alarm
This is not a new issue for Tottenham Hotspur. Last year, Ange Postecoglou said the club had a leak inside the club and said it had narrowed down where the information was coming from. He also said it was not coming from agents or players.
Postecoglou said at the time: “There is no doubt we have got a leak inside the club – somebody who continues to leak out information,” and added that it made the job more difficult because he did not want opposition teams knowing team selection on game day.
He also stressed that the club had been working on the problem for some time, saying: “We’ve narrowed it down. We’ve been looking at it for quite a while and we have a fair idea of where it is coming from. It’s disappointing because you’d like to think everyone who is in our camp is working with us, not against us.”
Why it matters now
The latest leak concern suggests Tottenham Hotspur’s internal information problem has not gone away. When line-ups are exposed 24 hours in advance, it can affect match preparation, tactical planning and the club’s ability to keep opponents guessing.
Postecoglou also made clear that the issue was especially troubling when medical information was involved. He said he was careful with that information and called the leak “unacceptable” from a club perspective.
For Tottenham Hotspur, the core issue is simple: a club cannot fully control the outside noise, but it does need control over what leaves the building. With team selection details again appearing well before matches, the search for the mole inside the club remains a live issue rather than an old concern.
