The allegations relate to five women and are said to cover conduct between 2007 and 2016. The case moves from investigation to court with a scheduled first appearance, which gives the next public point at which the charge can be addressed.

Metropolitan Police Service charge

The Crown Prosecution Service authorised the Metropolitan Police Service to charge Clarke after detectives submitted a file of evidence. The investigation began in September 2025, and a man then in his 40s was first arrested on Thursday, 25 September 2025 in connection with it.

That sequence matters because the charge did not come from a stand-alone complaint. It followed detective work, a formal evidence file and a charging decision by the CPS, which set the case on a court track rather than leaving it at the stage of police inquiry.

Mike Cagney support message

Detective Superintendent Mike Cagney said: “The women connected to these charges continue to receive support from specially trained officers.” He also said: “We urge anyone who has been a victim of sexual assault to contact police. The information you provide will be dealt with in the utmost sensitivity and we have trained investigators on hand to support you.”

He added: “Support is also available by contacting the independent charity, Rape Crisis at 24/7 Rape and Sexual Abuse Support Line.” For anyone who has information connected to the case, the police contact point listed is newsdesk@.

Westminster Magistrates’ Court hearing

The scheduled hearing at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on 21 October 2026 will be the next procedural step in public view. At that stage, the court can deal with the charge and set the case’s immediate legal timetable.

What specific sexual offences Clarke was charged with has not been listed in the material released so far. The charge itself, though, already fixes the case to five women, a nine-year alleged period and a court date that is now set.
