Matthew MacDermid has been appointed to referee Celtic’s rearranged Scottish Premiership match against St Johnstone at McDiarmid Park on Wednesday evening.

The game, which kicks off at 8pm, was originally scheduled for 22 August but was moved because of Celtic’s UEFA Champions League playoff ties against LASK. The SPFL rearranged the fixture to fit around the club’s European commitments.

Ross Macleod and David Dunne will assist MacDermid, while Steven McLean is in VAR.

It is another early-season test in a compressed calendar for Celtic, who head to Perth to face newly promoted St Johnstone. With the fixture now slotted between European matches, the referee appointment is part of the wider build-up to a busy period for both clubs.

For Celtic, the visit to Perth comes with the usual demands of balancing domestic and European schedules. For St Johnstone, it is an opportunity to measure themselves against one of the Scottish Premiership’s established sides in front of a home crowd at McDiarmid Park.
