Delta Air Lines Details Delta Flight 2311 Rapid Descent After Pressurization Issue

Delta Air Lines flight 2311 made a Delta Flight 2311 rapid descent on Sunday after an unexpected pressurization issue, and passengers used emergency oxygen as the Boeing 737-900ER dropped before touchdown. The flight, bound from Los Angeles International Airport to Salt Lake City Airport, diverted toward Las Vegas before continuing to Salt Lake City that night.

Delta flight 2311 and LAS

Delta said the crew followed training and procedures to bring the aircraft to optimal altitude when the pressurization problem came up. The airline also apologized to customers and thanked flight crews and support teams on the ground for their professionalism.

Flightradar24 said DL2311 left LAX at 5:06 PM and reached SLC at 12:24 AM. That timeline shows the aircraft was back in service within hours, after the diversion and the emergency descent were over.

Passenger account on Reddit

A Reddit user claiming to be one of the passengers said the pressurization system failed, their ears immediately started hurting, the oxygen masks dropped, and the flight made a rapid descent into Las Vegas. The same account also said the event felt chaotic, painful, and hard to understand from inside the cabin.

That passenger account does more than repeat the airline’s version. Delta described a crew response guided by training, while the onboard description points to a sudden cabin problem that passengers experienced at the same time as the descent.

January 5 on DAL760

The flight sat in the same pressurization family as Delta flight 760, which on January 5 had a slow pressure leak and diverted because of a slow depressurization event. DAL760 was able to use backup systems to repressurize before diverting to New York JFK as a precaution.

For passengers on Delta flight 2311, the practical result was a same-night arrival in Salt Lake City after an emergency diversion to Las Vegas. What caused the unexpected pressurization issue on the Boeing 737-900ER has not been publicly revealed.
