Ryan Garcia turned a routine fight-week news conference into the main event on Thursday in Las Vegas, eating a boiled egg while taunting Conor Benn ahead of their Saturday bout at the T-Mobile Arena.
The moment brought some heat to a build-up that had been relatively quiet. Garcia, 29, shouted and swore during the exchange, while Benn kept his cool as the two were kept apart in the theater-filled scene.
The egg gesture was a pointed reference to Benn's two positive tests for clomifene in 2022. It also connected to the WBC's ruling that elevated egg consumption could provide a reasonable explanation, making Garcia's stunt a clear jab tied to one of the sport's more unusual recent controversies.
Garcia did not avoid the issue of his own past either. In 2024, he tested positive for ostarine after his fight with Devin Haney and served a doping suspension, giving the confrontation extra baggage on both sides.
