Pedro Porro will be assessed before Tottenham Hotspur’s Saturday game against Everton after feeling a small muscular problem, with Roberto De Zerbi saying he does not want to take any risks.
The head coach said the defender’s availability would be checked on Friday and made clear the club is being cautious with a player whose workload has already needed managing. Porro was part of a long World Cup period, and De Zerbi said that background is part of why Tottenham are being careful now.
De Zerbi grouped Porro with Destiny Udogie in his comments, saying the two players are similar in that both need to be handled carefully. Udogie has had his own injury problems in 2026, and last season he also suffered many injuries. He played 60 minutes in Nottingham, but Tottenham are still planning to manage him in the best way possible.
What it means for Tottenham
The immediate issue for Tottenham is simple: Porro may or may not be available for Saturday’s 5.30pm BST meeting with Everton. If he is ruled out, that would add another selection problem for a team already dealing with multiple fitness checks.
James Maddison is also in the frame after missing Tottenham’s last three matches with a shoulder problem, while on Friday De Zerbi said Mykhailo Mudryk had suffered an ankle injury and was sidelined. That leaves Tottenham with several moving parts ahead of a key fixture.
For now, the focus is on the assessment. De Zerbi’s message was clear: Tottenham will wait and see whether Porro can play, but they are not prepared to force the issue.
