Drakkar Klose is not easing back into the spotlight. He is coming back from a torn shoulder, a long layoff and all the usual comeback-fight nerves with a brutally simple plan: stuff Tommy Gantt’s shots, make the fight ugly and finish it in the third round. That is not the language of a man hoping to nick a cautious points win. It is the language of a fighter who thinks he is about to expose a wrestler who has been handed a step up at exactly the wrong time.

That confidence matters because Klose has spent the last year rebuilding after the injury he suffered against Edson Barboza last August. The shoulder tear came in the second round of that fight, and a Dodgers surgeon told him the recovery would take around 9 to 12 months. He was already back giving guys rounds in the gym around six months into recovery, and after Tommy McMillen’s last fight he said he finally felt 100 percent again. Now, at Noche UFC, he gets the kind of matchup that should tell him exactly where he stands after the layoff.

Or at least that is how Klose sees it. He said he had no real read on Tommy Gantt as an MMA fighter, beyond what his coaches have picked up through wrestling circles. The tape, in his view, does not offer much either because Gantt has been beating opponents Klose dismissed as “Uber drivers” and fighters with losing records. That is a pointed way of saying the sample is thin and the test has not been severe. It also tells you Klose is not losing sleep over the threat in front of him.

That does not mean he is treating the fight like a formality. Quite the opposite. Klose expects Gantt to shoot when things get rough, and he says he is ready for the clinch, ready to make it dirty and ready to punish him for it. He even noted that Gantt trains with Daniel Cormier, which suggests there will be some real wrestling intent behind the challenge. But Klose’s message was crystal clear: he believes he is the better clinch fighter, the more experienced pressure man, and the one most likely to control the ugly exchanges.

The tone of the whole thing is telling. Klose admitted he thought he would get a bigger name, which is fair enough for a fighter returning after a serious injury and a year away. But he also sounded perfectly willing to treat this as a paid assignment: beat the man up, collect the paycheck and keep moving. At 33, he knows the clock is not waiting around for him, and he said as much by noting that Gantt has to fight now. That is not just a jab at the opponent’s circumstances; it is Klose laying down the hierarchy before they even step in.

And there is a bigger picture here. Klose is not pretending this is only about Tommy Gantt. He said he wants Beneil Dariush again, and he made it clear he knows Dariush has one more left. So this is not merely a comeback bout. It is a chance to reassert himself, cash another check and maybe force the kind of conversation that puts a real name in front of him next. First, though, he has to back up the noise in the cage. If Klose is right, the fight will get messy, the shots will get stuffed and the third round will not be kind to Tommy Gantt.
