Mississippi State University has been added to the expanded field for the 2026 Men’s Canadian Collegiate Invitational, giving the program a spot in a 13-team event that will be played Sept. 12-15 at Öviinbyrd Golf Club in MacTier, Ont.
The third playing of the tournament will feature 73 collegiate players, including eight individuals, across 54 holes. Golf Canada said the field has been expanded by six new teams, adding another layer to an event that already has a clear competitive track record.
The Men’s Canadian Collegiate Invitational debuted in 2024, when Notre Dame won the inaugural team championship. Notre Dame repeated in 2025, while Calen Sanderson claimed the individual title at 18-under and Isaiah Ibit finished third individually.
Connor Doyle, the tournament director for Golf Canada, said the organization is excited to begin the third edition at Öviinbyrd Golf Club. He also said Penn State University and Kent State University are co-hosting the event alongside their Canadian head coaches, Jon Mills and Mark Leon.
For Mississippi State University, the invitation creates an opportunity to take part in a cross-border NCAA Division I event with Canadian ties from both the player and staff levels. The tournament also carries added value because the individual winner and the top five finishers will earn exemptions into the 2027 RBC Canadian Open and the 2027 Canadian Men’s Amateur Championship.
That makes the event more than just an early-season test. It is a chance to compete for a title, build momentum, and put players in position for bigger opportunities the following year.
