Brady Kurtz won the sprint race before the 2026 DELUXE HOMEART FIM SGP of Denmark – Vojens and moved level with Bartosz Zmarzlik on 129 points, which is exactly the kind of pressure shift that can decide a championship by the time everyone gets to Toruń.
This is the sort of storyline that makes a Speedway Grand Prix cycle feel familiar in all the right ways and tense in all the right ways. The current campaign already looks a lot like last year’s competition, and that is hardly a bad thing when Kurtz and Zmarzlik are trading blows again. Kurtz beat Zmarzlik in the final in Vojens last season, and now he has arrived back in Denmark with another statement result at exactly the right moment.
The consequence is obvious. The title is expected to go all the way to the final round in Toruń, and that is no longer a vague possibility. It is the likeliest outcome unless one of the front-runners produces something decisive in Vojens. Before the first race scheduled for 19:00, Robert Lambert sat seven points behind the leaders, which keeps him within striking distance but still needing a serious swing in fortunes.
Why Vojens matters so much
There is always a temptation to treat the penultimate round as a warm-up for the finale. That would be a mistake here. Vojens is where the title race can either be set up neatly or blown wide open. Kurtz has already shown he likes this place, while Zmarzlik has spent enough time at the front of Speedway GP to know how quickly a slim advantage can disappear.
The wider picture is just as sharp. The fight for the top seven also matters enormously because it guarantees participation in next season’s Speedway GP cycle, and that turns the mid-table battle into something far more serious than simple pride. Seventh place is not decoration. It is security.
Daniel Bewley’s position remains one of the more intriguing subplots. He stood on the lowest podium step in Vojens in 2024, finished second in the inaugural round in Landshut, and then missed almost the entire season after a serious injury during a league match in Denmark. That is a brutal reminder that form lines in Speedway GP are never the whole story; timing, fitness and survival matter too.
For now, though, the headline belongs to Kurtz. He has done the one thing every title challenger needs to do: force the favourite to answer back. Zmarzlik still has every chance to settle matters on his own terms, but the sprint race has ensured he will have to earn it. That is exactly how a serious championship fight should look.
