Acrisure Stadium is heading into its 25th anniversary with a round of offseason upgrades that are designed to improve the experience for Pittsburgh Steelers fans on and off the field. The changes include a new playing surface, new fan spaces and expanded food and beverage offerings, with improvements set to be visible at the 1 p.m. Sunday home opener against the Atlanta Falcons.
Vice president of stadium operations and management Jay Roberts said the work is part of the stadium’s wider push to stay at the highest level.
“As Acrisure Stadium marks its 25th anniversary, we’re doing what we’ve always done: continually improve the stadium so we compete at the highest level, on and off the field,” Roberts said.
The most immediate football-related change is underfoot. Over the offseason, Acrisure Stadium transitioned the field to Tahoma 31 Bermudagrass sod grown on plastic, a move intended to keep the surface ready for the demands of the 2026-2027 season. For players, that kind of update matters because the quality of the pitch can affect everything from traction to pace of play.
Fan areas get a noticeable lift
The upgrades are not limited to the field. Acrisure Stadium has also added new fan spaces and concession offerings across the building, with changes spread through the 100-level concourse and other areas that shape the gameday atmosphere. Those additions are meant to make the matchday experience feel more complete, especially for supporters who spend much of the afternoon moving between seats, concourses and club spaces.
Among the additions are the Ford Fan Zone, the FedEx Great Hall and the Steel City Classics Stand. Other food and drink options now include Steelhouse, the Goal Line Stand, Steel City Markets, Pick 6 Sammies, Alla Famiglia, Dippin’ Dots, the Yinzer Wrap, the Pittsburgh Pierogies Stand and the Steeler logo vessel. The stadium has also added New TVs in key areas, along with expanded entertainment touches that Roberts said are part of the wider effort to improve the experience.
“This offseason’s upgrades — from a new playing surface to expanded food offerings and enhanced in-game entertainment and more — are designed to set the team up for success and deliver a memorable gameday experience for every fan who walks through our gates,” Roberts said.
Demand is already clear
There is also a sign that the club-facing side of the stadium is drawing strong interest. The new premium members’ club is already sold out for the 2026 season, which suggests the appetite for upgraded spaces is there before the first snap of the year is even taken.
That is the broader point of these changes. This is not just about making Acrisure Stadium look newer; it is about keeping the venue competitive as a modern NFL building while also giving fans more reasons to arrive early and stay longer. The stadium has made a point of blending infrastructure work with hospitality upgrades, and the latest round follows that pattern.
For Steelers fans, the biggest test will come quickly enough on Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons. The result will matter most, of course, but the home opener should also give supporters their first proper look at how the new field, new spaces and updated food offerings all come together.
That balance between football and presentation is now part of the message at Acrisure Stadium. The stadium is using its 25th anniversary as a marker, but the real aim is much more practical: give the Steelers a better setup and give fans a better day out.
