Steven Hornung said his Chevrolet Silverado Trail Boss lost its 6.2-liter V8 at 98,876 miles, leaving the truck waiting on a recall repair. He wrote that the replacement engine is backordered, so the repair has no set arrival date.

Hornung posted a photo of his black Silverado 1500 Trail Boss sitting partially loaded onto a flatbed in the Chevy Silverado Z71 Trailboss Owners group. In the update, he wrote, "The 6.2L finally gave out at 98,876 miles."
He followed that with a note that the engine is being replaced because of the recall and that it is on back order. He also said he has a 10-year, 150,000-mile warranty.
GM Recall Scope
GM’s recall covers certain 2021–2024 Chevrolet Silverado 1500s equipped with the 6.2-liter L87 V8, along with certain GMC Sierra 1500, Chevrolet Tahoe, Suburban, GMC Yukon and Yukon XL, and Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV vehicles. The recall documentation filed with NHTSA says manufacturing defects involving the connecting rod and/or crankshaft can cause engine damage and ultimately engine failure.
The same filing says engine failure while driving can result in a loss of propulsion and increase crash risk. Hornung’s failure happened well inside the warranty window he cited and inside the recall mileage range, but the replacement engine is still not available.
Backordered Replacement Engine
Hornung’s next step is straightforward: wait for the replacement engine tied to the recall. His update leaves the practical problem in place for now, because the truck needs a new engine and the part needed to install it is back ordered.
For an owner already inside a 10-year, 150,000-mile warranty, that delay turns a covered repair into an open-ended one. Hornung said he is not sure how long it will be.
