More than 100 stores are affected, and many are already running going-out-of-business sales with discounts of 20% to 40% off all merchandise. For shoppers, that means the inventory is moving out now, not waiting for a later clearance cycle.
Kindthread’s 2022 Relaunch
2022 is the last known major turning point before this shutdown: Kindthread acquired and relaunched the Scrubs & Beyond brand and stores that year. Scrubs & Beyond has been in business for more than 20 years and says it became the largest retailer of healthcare apparel and accessories in the country, with its own Beyond Scrubs line alongside nurse scrubs and uniforms from other top brands.
Jeff Sica, a financial expert, would see a chain-wide closure of this size as more than a local store problem; it is a nationwide reset for a retailer built around physical fitting and in-person selection. That matters for customers who rely on nearby stores for uniforms, because the company is not trimming a handful of weak sites — it is shutting the whole brick-and-mortar footprint.
What Buyers Face Now
20% to 40% is the discount range now showing up at many stores, which gives customers a short window to buy from remaining shelves before the assortment narrows further. The practical move is simple: check the store you use, compare sizes and styles in person, and buy only what is still on the floor, because the chain’s own signage says all retail stores are closing.
More than 30 states are in scope, but the company has not explained why every store is closing, and that missing reason is the main unanswered business question. It is also unclear how many employees will be affected, so the closure is broad enough to reshape a national healthcare-apparel chain while still leaving customers to watch the pace store by store.
