Sebastien Pocognoli will name his first Scotland squad on Tuesday, with Luke Graham and Robbie Ure set to receive their first full call-ups as the new head coach begins his first international window. A new look under Pocognoli
Pocognoli succeeded Steve Clarke and is expected to look for ways to freshen up an ageing squad. That makes this first selection especially important, not just because it introduces a new manager, but because it may also bring several new names into the senior set-up.
Luke Graham was already involved with Scotland earlier this year, having been part of the pre-World Cup training camp in May. Since then, he has joined Stoke City in the Championship during the summer, giving him a new club environment as well as a chance to push for international recognition.
Robbie Ure also made a summer move, leaving for Sevilla. The forward has 20 goals and three assists in 20 matches, form that has helped put him in position for a first full Scotland call-up.
Other names in the frame
Hearts' recent form has also brought attention to James Wilson, Calvin Miller and Josh McPake, although the key focus remains on the first squad from Pocognoli and the possibility of new faces being added.
After Tuesday's announcement, Pocognoli will take charge of Scotland for the first time against Slovenia on Saturday, 26 September. Three days later, his debut in the Hampden dugout will come against Switzerland. Those matches will offer the first real look at how he wants Scotland to play and which players he trusts in the new setup.
For Luke Graham and Robbie Ure, the next step is simple: see whether their form and progress have done enough to earn a place in Pocognoli's first squad, and possibly a longer-term role in the Scotland picture.
