EA Sports FC 27 adds the FC 27 web app to The Grounds, an open-world mode built around football culture rather than only on-pitch play. Players who want more than match simulation now have a separate space for club access, street games, and social football-style activity.
Karthik Venkatesan on club play
Karthik Venkatesan said the idea started with club-community demand for more ways to interact with clubmates and keep connecting while doing things separately. He said players have repeatedly asked for more ways to do what they love, and that the team has seen them use club friendlies and other workarounds on YouTube and Twitch to play 1v1 and 2v2.
The Grounds at EA Vancouver
EA Vancouver opened its doors earlier this year for hands-on play with The Grounds. The mode begins in The Terrace before branching into Parkside, Montclair and Zeiza, and those three districts draw on football cultures in England, France and Argentina.
The space includes street-inspired games from 1v1 to new concepts such as Bucket and Balloon Ball. Clubs are accessed through The Grounds, so the mode is not just cosmetic; it is the route into the game’s social layer and the place where those smaller matches happen.
EA Sports FC 27 after COVID
Venkatesan also pointed to the broader shift since COVID, saying more players have wanted to engage with games alongside others in bigger online spaces. That gives The Grounds a clearer purpose than a novelty mode, even if the exact rollout structure for players is still not stated.
The sharper question now is how EA Sports FC 27 will structure access to The Grounds after launch, because the mode’s value depends on whether players can get into those districts and club spaces without friction.
