Apple Adds Siri AI to iOS 27 on iPhone 15 Pro — Alarm Clock

Apple released iOS 27, and the alarm clock for many iPhone users is now whether their device can actually use the update. iPhone 11 and newer can install it, but the Siri AI and Apple Intelligence features are limited to iPhone 15 Pro and newer. Brenda Stolyar said she and the article's team had been using the iOS 27 beta all summer.

Apple had promised a new and improved Siri in 2024, after years of criticism that the assistant felt slow, unreliable, and irritating to use. The update now brings a different experience on supported phones: Siri AI can see what is on the screen and on the phone to answer questions, then pull in information already stored on the device.

Brenda Stolyar on iOS 27

Stolyar described the new Siri AI update as part of iOS 27's broader feature set. When a user says “Hey, Siri,” a shimmering orb appears in the iPhone's Dynamic Island, and the results show up as rich communication cards that can be pulled down to open the standalone Siri app. That app keeps track of all conversations, which is a practical shift from the older back-and-forth most users know.

The same setup also changes how the assistant reaches into the phone. Siri AI can use calendar invites, emails, texts, files, and notes already stored on the device, and users can upload content if their request relates to a photo or file. For people with one of the supported phones, that means the assistant is no longer limited to the last voice command; it can work from context already sitting inside the device.

iPhone 11 and iPhone 15 Pro

Here is the split that matters most. iOS 27 itself works on the iPhone 11 and newer, but Apple Intelligence features such as Siri AI, the standalone Siri app, and Visual Intelligence require the iPhone 15 Pro and newer. So a phone can be current on software without getting the full set of marquee features.

That leaves many users with a partial update: the operating system lands, but the most visible AI tools do not. If a reader has an iPhone 11 or another older compatible model, the path is still to install iOS 27 through Settings, then General, then Software Update. The stronger Siri experience stays on the newer hardware line.

Software Update and Backup

Apple recommended backing up the iPhone before installing a new version of the operating system. The simplest route is iCloud Backup, then Software Update in Settings > General > Software Update, where the update can be checked and installed.

The open question now is not whether iOS 27 exists — it does — but how much of the new Siri AI experience older compatible phones will keep seeing as Apple pushes deeper AI features onto newer models. For anyone deciding whether to update today, the key distinction is already clear: the software arrives broadly, but the assistant upgrade does not.
