A2 traffic was brought to a stop in Gravesend after a crash between a car and a motorbike just after 7am. An air ambulance was called to the scene, and the London-bound carriageway was shut by 7.20am.
Gravesend and A227 Wrotham Road
National Highways said traffic was stopped in both directions on the A2 between the A227 Gravesend and the B262 Southfleet after the collision. It also reported delays of 60 minutes westbound and 35 minutes eastbound, with emergency services on scene.
The coast-bound side was closed for about 20 minutes so the air ambulance could land, then reopened. That left one side moving again while the London-bound carriageway stayed shut.
Inrix and M2 Junction 1
Inrix said congestion on the London-bound carriageway stretched back to M2 Junction 1 for Strood and as far as Bluewater on the other side. That left drivers facing a long queue on a route already held up by the closure near A227 Wrotham Road.
Emergency services had been contacted for comment. Whether anyone was injured in the crash and why the air ambulance was needed is not stated, so drivers still had only one clear instruction: avoid the affected stretch until the route clears.
