james ransone was left out of the 2026 Emmy Awards In Memoriam segment in Los Angeles on Monday night. Jamie McPhee, his widow, said on Tuesday that the omission was a snub and that she only then realized how far it went.
"I didn't watch the Emmys so l only now understand how much of a snub this truly was," she wrote on Instagram Stories. McPhee also said, "I am incredibly disappointed @televisionacad. @Jamesransone was an incredibly gifted actor and it simply is not right to not acknowledge him and his work."

McPhee’s post carried the kind of blunt detail broadcast omissions often miss. "My husband @jamesransone was not acknowledged in memoriam at tonight's Emmys. He was also not at the Oscars earlier this year. PJ was impossible, lovable, intolerable and incredible - depends on who you ask," she wrote. She added, "But good news is PJ wouldn't care," and, "He'd actually think it's funny."
Television Academy time limit
A Television Academy representative said the broadcast format leaves little room for every name. "Given only a few minutes to honour those who have passed, there is a limit on how many people can be acknowledged on the broadcasts," the representative said. The same representative said, "The Academy presents a more extensive video, listing the hundreds of names of television colleagues we've lost in the past year on their website."

James Ransone is included in that full In Memoriam video posted online. The split matters because it leaves the televised segment as a curated highlight reel while the website carries the fuller roll call, and in this case the broadcast left out an actor McPhee says should have been there.
Ransone died by suicide at 46 last December, so the omission landed fast and publicly. McPhee’s complaint now sits on the record, and the only place the Television Academy says his name appears is the longer online memorial.
