Roland Quandt says the Samsung Galaxy S27 Ultra will use a 50MP 5x optical zoom telephoto camera with a Sony sensor. That narrows the camera debate to one specific telephoto layout and pushes the rumored 4x setup further aside for buyers trying to judge how much changes from the S26 Ultra.

Quandt also said the Samsung Galaxy S27 Ultra will not have 4x optical zoom. He pointed to a 5x optical zoom telephoto camera instead, which means the long-range zoom spec appears to be staying closer to the S26 Ultra than the late-August rumor suggested.
He added that the telephoto camera uses a Sony sensor. That detail matters for anyone tracking whether Samsung is changing the part itself or just refining the camera package around it.
S26 Ultra camera dispute
Back in late August, a rumor claimed Samsung would equip the Galaxy S27 Ultra with a new telephoto camera with 4x optical zoom and a 1/1.9" type sensor. Earlier this week, another source pushed back and said the Galaxy S27 Ultra would have the exact same 5x optical zoom telephoto camera as its predecessor.
Roland Quandt’s version lines up with the 5x camp. It also leaves the practical question for Samsung Galaxy buyers unchanged for now: which telephoto setup ends up in the shipping phone.
OLED and chipset details
The Samsung Galaxy S27 Ultra is also expected to feature the M16 OLED panel. It is expected to be powered, at least in some markets, by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro chipset.
There have been rumors about the Exynos 2700 being offered in some markets. That would mean the same model name could still arrive with different silicon depending on where Samsung sells it.
Roland Quandt also said the Samsung Galaxy S27 Ultra will have a 50MP ultrawide camera and a 16MP selfie camera with autofocus. The selfie camera would be a change from the S26 Ultra's 12MP selfie camera, so the front camera looks more likely to move than the telephoto one.
The open question is which camera configuration Samsung will actually ship on the S27 Ultra.
