Pierce Brosnan and Helen Mirren pushed back on the reports around the Mobland season 2 release date on Tuesday, describing the chatter around Tom Hardy as overblown. Brosnan said he and the cast were blindsided by the claims while production on season two was still in motion.
Brosnan’s Tuesday response
Brosnan told The Hollywood Reporter that he first heard about the reports from one of his sons while he was away on vacation. He said, "I think we’re all blindsided by it, really," and added, "I was away on vacation, and I couldn’t believe it." He also said he reached out to Hardy: "I reached out to Tom, saying, ‘I love you, mate. I love you.’"
Brosnan described Hardy as the center of the show: "He is the center; he allows us to play these crazy characters." He then dismissed the controversy as "a storm in a teacup," which is about as blunt a read as you get from a cast member who knows how much a rumor can distort a production story.
Mirren’s Instagram defense
Days after reports broke in May, Mirren posted a photo of Hardy on Instagram with the message, "Love you now and always." Ahead of the show’s return, she said, "False rumors just should be knocked on the head ASAP," and added that she posted because of her "absolutely genuine love of Tom."
Mirren also said, "You know, it’s par for the course, and it’s important, especially in a show like this where we are all so mutually supportive of each other." She added, "Very often the actors get blamed for this sort of thing, and if there is a rumor, the immediate sort of blame can fall on actors."
Hardy reports and limbo
In May, reports of alleged tension around Hardy began circulating, and earlier this summer several outlets said his future on the Paramount+ crime drama was unclear. A source close to the situation told The Hollywood Reporter that his future on the series was in limbo, while another source said Hardy "refused to come out of his trailer for hours at a time" and "kept the cast waiting."
That clash between the reports and the cast response is the real story here. Brosnan and Mirren are not talking about abstract publicity noise; they are publicly trying to steady the production narrative around Hardy while the second season remains the immediate focus. Whether Tom Hardy and the MobLand future changed after the reports is still the open question, and the cast’s message is clear enough: they want the drama on screen, not in the trades.
