The Pure Insurance Championship Impacting First Tee returned to the Monterey Peninsula in 2025 for its 23rd edition, bringing another week of PGA Tour Champions competition and junior golf opportunity together in one event.
The tournament has become a familiar stop on the PGA Tour Champions calendar because of its format as much as its location. It brings junior participants into a pro-am setting alongside PGA Tour Champions players and business amateurs, creating a weekend that is part competition and part development stage for First Tee kids.
How the event is staged
Friday and Saturday feature one professional, one junior amateur and two amateurs in a team format across one round on each course. That setup gives the event its pro-junior identity and keeps the focus on pairing golf talent with broader life skills development.
On Sunday, the field narrows to 24 pro-junior teams at Pebble Beach only, with the competition continuing based on score. The tournament includes 80 foursomes in all, plus 24 pro-junior teams split into 12 male groups and 12 female groups.
Why it stands out
The tournament is tied closely to First Tee, with kids selected partly for life skills as well as golfing ability. This year’s event includes participants from 52 First Tee chapters, underscoring the national reach of a competition that blends instruction, exposure and championship golf.
For PGA Tour Champions, the Pure Insurance Championship remains a rare event with a distinct purpose. It is still a competitive tournament, but it also serves as a showcase for the next generation of players and the chapter network that supports them.
