A team can look strong in the standings and still run into an opponent that exposes a specific weakness.
A matchup Atlanta would prefer to avoid
The concern is simple. The Braves last won the World Series in 2021, and that was also the last time they beat the Padres in a season series. Since then, the pattern has tilted the other way. In 2024, the Braves were swept by San Diego in the Wild Card Series, and this year they lost the season series again.
That kind of run is hard to dismiss as coincidence.
