Alabama, meanwhile, is 2-0 after beating Kentucky 45-17 last week, a game in which it trailed 17-13 at halftime before pouring on 32 unanswered points. So this is not just a reunion. It is a test of which result matters more: the Seminoles’ win over Alabama last year, or the Crimson Tide’s ability to absorb a punch and then flatten the opposition.
A rematch with real bite
There is some history here, and it matters. Florida State snapped Alabama’s 23-game season-opening win streak last year with that 31-17 victory, a result that still hangs over this matchup. If the Seminoles are good enough to make this uncomfortable, the narrative around both teams changes quickly. If not, Alabama will use the afternoon to remind everyone that last year’s upset was the exception, not the rule.
Either way, this is exactly the sort of game college football needs more often: ranked teams, a meaningful rematch, a hostile setting, and enough tension to make 3:30 p.m. ET feel like prime time in disguise.
