Kristian Fulton gave the Kansas City Chiefs a quick change of momentum in Week 2, intercepting Daniel Jones and turning the turnover into an instant red-zone possession.
The play came in a first quarter that already featured early scoring chances on both sides. Indianapolis had moved ahead on a Spencer Shrader 49-yard field goal, then Kansas City answered with a Harrison Butker 46-yard field goal to cut the lead to 7-3. The Colts also added a touchdown when Tyler Warren caught a scoring pass and Shrader handled the extra point.
Why the interception mattered
Fulton’s takeaway was the key defensive swing in the sequence. By picking off Daniel Jones, he gave the Chiefs the ball deep in Colts territory and immediately changed the field position in a close game. That kind of turnover can matter even more early, when both teams are still settling in and every possession carries extra weight.
Kansas City made the most of the opportunity. Patrick Mahomes later connected with Travis Kelce on a 13-yard touchdown, giving the Chiefs the lead. Earlier in the drive sequence, Mahomes had also thrown a 16-yard strike to Xavier Worthy as Kansas City kept pressure on the Colts.
In a game that featured back-and-forth scoring, Fulton’s interception stood out because it directly led to an immediate scoring chance. For the Chiefs, it was a reminder that one defensive play can quickly flip the game state and put the offense in position to finish the job.
