President Donald Trump will meet New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani at Gracie Mansion on Monday, Mamdani’s office said. The meeting is set to focus on issues affecting New York City and New Yorkers.
Trump is in New York City for the United Nations General Assembly meeting and is set to deliver remarks on Tuesday. He is also set to meet with global leaders while he is in the city, placing the Gracie Mansion visit inside a broader stretch of high-level diplomacy.

The meeting at Gracie Mansion puts the president at the mayor’s official residence for a face-to-face discussion tied to local city issues. It follows a series of earlier meetings between the two, including one at the White House and another in February.
In April, Mamdani said his relationship with Trump was “honest, direct and productive.” He added, “New York City holds a very special place for him as well as for me. We’re both from the same city.”
That same month, Mamdani also rolled out his plan to impose a pied-à-terre tax on New York City homeowners who maintain a nonprimary residence in the city. Trump responded on Truth Social by calling the tax “SO WRONG” and writing, “Sadly, Mayor Mamdani is DESTROYING New York! It has no chance! The United States of America should not contribute to its failure. It will only get WORSE. The TAX, TAX, TAX Policies are SO WRONG.”

The two have also publicly traded insults. Trump called Mamdani a “communist lunatic” before their first meeting, and Mamdani called Trump a “despot” and a “fascist” during his campaign last year.
After meeting Mamdani in the Oval Office, Trump told reporters that he’d be “cheering” for him and described him as a “very rational person.” Mamdani later said, “That’s something I’ve said in the past and I say today.”
Mamdani also said after their second White House meeting in February, “I think what I appreciated about the conversation that I had with the president was that we were not shy about the places of disagreement, about the politics that has brought us to this moment,” and, “And we also wanted to focus on what it could look like to deliver on a shared analysis of an affordability crisis for New Yorkers.”
The Monday meeting leaves the city watching the same basic question from a closer distance: what specific issues affecting New York City and New Yorkers will Trump and Mamdani discuss at Gracie Mansion?
