Shannon bake off turned into a no-exit night on Tuesday, September 22. Shannon from Gloucestershire had to leave the tent during the showstopper challenge, yet no baker was sent home on the Great British Bake Off.
Nigella Lawson and Paul Hollywood judged three bakes from each contestant before the elimination call. Lawson said it would be unfair to send anyone home, and every baker went through to the next week.
Three bakes, one hold-up
The format is simple and unforgiving: three challenges every week, with a signature bake, a technical challenge, and a showstopper. The technical is done blind, so the bakers do not know what they will face until the day, which leaves little room to recover if one round goes badly.
That is why Shannon’s exit from the tent during the showstopper stood out. She could not finish her bake, but the judging still stopped short of an elimination, which made the episode’s first result more lenient than the structure usually allows.
Molly and Danni wobble
Molly dropped her cake in during the signature round and did not impress Lawson and Hollywood in the technical. Danni’s portrait showstopper cake was completely vegan and collapsed as soon as the contestants left the tent.
Those missteps should have narrowed the field, but they did not produce a departure. Instead, the judges treated the week as unfinished business and kept the full line-up intact for the next round.
Lawson’s first call
Lawson arrived after it was announced that Prue Leith would be stepping down from the role, so this was the first elimination decision under the new judging setup. Spreading the week across three tests and then holding back the axe makes the new series feel less like a purge and more like a reset, at least for one episode.
The sharper question now is which baker will be named the first Star Baker, because the opening week has already shown that a difficult round does not guarantee a send-off. For Shannon, the important part is simpler: she stayed in the competition despite not finishing the bake that forced her out of the tent.
