Johnson County Sheriff's Office recovered the body of an adult from Lake Macbride on Tuesday afternoon after responding to Lake Macbride State Park around 12:10 p.m. A child remained missing after the incident, and officials kept searching through the evening.

The adult was recovered at 12:43 p.m. and pronounced dead at the scene. A KCRG crew saw boats, water rescue and a helicopter in the Macbride Dam Road area near the spillway, and a University of Iowa Police officer told KCRG they were loading a patient and the helicopter was taking off.
The sequence points to a fast-moving recovery effort that shifted from response to search within minutes. Johnson County Sheriff's Office was on scene at Lake Macbride State Park before midday, then moved to the recovery of the adult and the continued search for the child.
Borlaug Elementary trip
The Iowa City Community School District said the incident involved a Borlaug Elementary 5th grade School of the Wild trip. The district said counselors and support personnel will be available to students and staff at Borlaug Elementary in the coming days, and school will be held there on Wednesday.
The district also canceled all School of the Wild trips for the foreseeable future and canceled its regularly scheduled board meeting for Tuesday night. Those steps show the incident reached beyond the shoreline and into the school schedule the same day.
Wednesday morning search
Officials searched for the missing child throughout Tuesday evening, then suspended the search for the night. It was scheduled to recommence Wednesday morning.
The adult body had already been recovered and pronounced dead, but the child remained missing, leaving the central circumstances of the incident unresolved. The identities of the victim and missing child have not yet been released.
