Harvey Weinstein was sentenced Wednesday to 15 years in prison in New York after a jury found him guilty again in a retrial tied to Miriam Haley. The sentence adds to the long criminal record already attached to the case and keeps the focus on what remains after the latest ruling: five years of supervised release and sex-offender registration.
In the downtown Manhattan courtroom, Weinstein appeared in a wheelchair with his hands cuffed to his seat. He had pleaded not guilty to a charge of first-degree criminal sexual act, and the jury’s June 2025 verdict followed a retrial that came after his earlier New York conviction was overturned in 2024.

Haley, a former Project Runway production assistant, told the court that Weinstein had “abused his position and power” and caused “a devastating effect on my life and security.” She also said, “It is a life sentence for me.” Her account centered on conduct she testified took place in his New York City apartment in 2006.
The jury’s verdict was narrower than the full set of allegations heard in the case. Jurors acquitted Weinstein of a separate criminal sex act charge involving Kaja Sokola, and they could not reach a verdict on the charge related to Jessica Mann.
Curtis Farber sentence
Judge Curtis Farber told Weinstein, “You took what you wanted by force, and you have never accepted responsibility.” Farber then imposed the 15-year term, ordered five years of supervised release, and required Weinstein to register as a sex offender.
Weinstein has been behind bars since his arrest in 2018, so the new sentence adds to time he is already serving rather than starting a new period of custody from scratch. He was originally convicted in 2020 in New York of third-degree rape involving Jessica Mann and first-degree criminal sexual act involving Haley, and that sentence was 23 years in prison before the appeals court ruling in 2024.
Weinstein convictions and appeals
Weinstein also faces a separate Los Angeles conviction from December 2022, when he was found guilty of rape and two counts of sexual assault. A Los Angeles judge later sentenced him to 16 years in prison in February 2023, and an appeals court vacated that original sentence for resentencing.
He has denied all allegations of sexual misconduct and has said his sexual encounters were consensual. In court Wednesday, he also addressed Haley and others with the phrase “anyone I may have hurt by my actions,” and said, “I am not a perfect person,” “but I am a person who has made mistakes,” and “I am not a violent man.” Prosecutors declined in late June to try the Jessica Mann case a fourth time after a hung jury.
