Warner Bros has pushed Gremlins 3 from November 19, 2027 to October 6, 2028, moving the Chris Columbus-directed sequel nearly a year deeper into its release calendar. The shift gives the studio a fall 2028 slot instead of the late-2027 date it had set for the untitled film.

The third Gremlins feature is still untitled, but it now has a new theatrical date: October 6, 2028. Chris Columbus is directing the film, and Warner Bros’ move resets when the project will reach theaters after its earlier November 19, 2027 opening had already been on the calendar.
That kind of repositioning is not just housekeeping. A move of almost a year changes when the film can be marketed, when any final production milestones have to land, and how it sits inside Warner Bros’ wider slate. For a franchise title, a date shift this large usually says as much about scheduling discipline as it does about the movie itself.
October works for Warner Bros
Warner Bros said it had good luck in the first weekend of October with Joker, which helps explain why the studio may prefer that window for Gremlins 3. The film was not facing any Paramount movie competition on either its old date or its new date, so the delay is not explained by direct competition in the article.
That leaves the most practical reading: Warner Bros chose to move the film into a slot it appears to value rather than react to a visible clash. In release-calendar terms, that is a cleaner kind of decision than a defensive retreat, and it suggests the studio is shaping the month around its own expectations rather than another company’s schedule.
The Gremlins team
The project already has a current draft from Hannah Marks, working from a screenplay by Columbus, Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein. Kristie Macosko Krieger and Holly Bario are producing for Amblin Entertainment, while 26th Street Pictures’ Columbus, Michael Barnathan and Mark Radcliffe are also producing.
Steven Spielberg is executive producing alongside Maiden Voyage’s Eleanor Columbus, and Joe Dante directed the first two Gremlins movies. For the film team, October 6, 2028 is now the date that matters; for Warner Bros, the bigger question is whether the new fall slot becomes the landing point for a franchise revival or just another date on a crowded calendar.
