Eric Robles has tied Stranger Things franchise upcoming shows to one metric: viewership. Stranger Things: Tales from ’85 has not been renewed for Season 3, and the showrunner says Netflix executives still need to decide whether the Hawkins spin-off moves forward.
Robles put it plainly on Instagram: "Viewership motivates a new season pickup so help me spread the word." That leaves the series in a holding pattern after Netflix’s original two-season order has already been fulfilled, with any third season dependent on a fresh green light.
Season 2 on FlixPatrol
Season 2 has not generated the kind of chart pressure that usually makes a pickup easier. Early daily data from FlixPatrol shows it only appeared in the overall Top 10 TV charts in a handful of countries, and over its first few days it completely missed the charts in major regions.
When it did surface, the season landed at #8 to #10 in Croatia, Greece, Hungary, Romania, Sri Lanka, and Ukraine. That is not the profile of a title running away with the service’s rankings; it is a modest foothold that still leaves room for Netflix to wait and see whether audience volume grows.
23.9M hours, then 40.4M
The franchise did prove it could attract meaningful attention earlier. The first season spent two weeks in the global top 10s and drew 23.9M viewing hours, which equals 4.9M views. By the first half of 2026, the series had added 40.4M total viewing hours, or 8.3M views, but that momentum has not yet translated into a Season 3 order.
That split is the story here. Robles says the door is open for more stories, yet the current viewing pattern does not look dominant enough to make renewal feel automatic. In Netflix terms, the difference between a development pass and a production go-ahead sits with the executives now.
