Peter Alexander is moving onto Golf Channel on Wednesday with two Live From pieces tied to the Presidents Cup outside Chicago. The assignment puts the MS Now host and longtime NBC White House correspondent into a different audience lane, with his work airing at 4pm ET.

Two pieces are scheduled for Live From, and both sit inside Golf Channel’s Presidents Cup coverage. One focuses on the presidential tie-ins around the tournament, while the other looks at Cubs LF Ian Happ and his father, who was a former agronomist with the USGA.
Alexander said the format fits the kind of reporting he wants to do beyond politics. “(But) for guys like me, it’s, ‘Hey, this is the audience I’m familiar with and here’s something that I’m passionate about. So let me just tell you a story on a different topic.’ And I hope to bring some of that audience with me.That’s what I’m excited about.”
Golf Channel and CNBC
“There’s a lot of similarities between audience for Golf Channel and CNBC. MS Now, maybe not as much yet,” Alexander said Wednesday. That split is the practical wrinkle in this debut: he is walking into a network audience that already overlaps with the kind of viewer he knows, even as MS Now sits farther from that lane.
For Golf Channel, the move adds a familiar on-air voice from NBC’s White House beat to tournament programming that usually leans on golf-first analysis. For Alexander, it is a test case for whether a commentator built in Washington can carry a story about the Presidents Cup without sounding imported from somewhere else.
Versant Networks
Alexander, who currently hosts the daily show State of Play on MS Now, said he has plans to contribute to more sports offerings for the Versant-owned networks in the future. Wednesday’s debut gives that idea a live trial run, with Live From serving as the bridge between political reporting and golf coverage.
What he delivers on Wednesday is the point to watch next: two pieces, one tournament-wide and one centered on Ian Happ, with the larger question whether this becomes a one-off crossover or the start of a broader run across the Versant lineup.
