That matters, because this is not a program drifting through the early part of the schedule. This is an undefeated No. 21 team with a real sense of momentum, and Buster Faulkner’s offense is a major reason why.
The simple truth is that Florida’s attack has looked efficient, organized and, crucially, dependable through three games. That is not a glamorous word, but it is an important one. Good offenses can flash. Useful offenses can survive. The best ones do both, and through this opening stretch Faulkner has Florida looking like a unit that knows exactly what it wants to be.
Philo has made Faulkner’s system look comfortable
The clearest sign that this thing is working is Philo. Through three games, he has run Buster Faulkner’s offense with a high level of efficiency, and that is not the sort of early-season detail you should casually brush aside. It suggests a quarterback who understands the structure of the system and a coordinator who has installed something the player can actually trust.
That is the difference between an offense that merely survives and one that starts to build something real. Philo has given Florida the steady hand it needs, and in a stretch where execution matters more than noise, that has been enough to keep the Gators moving in the right direction.
Baugh is already forcing the award conversation
Then there is Baugh, who has emerged as the clear favorite to win the Doak Walker Award. That is a serious statement this early, and it tells you plenty about how central he has become to Florida’s success. A running back does not become the favorite for that kind of recognition by accident. He gets there by being the player who keeps the offense on schedule, keeps drives alive and turns manageable situations into real advantages.
For Florida, that kind of presence is priceless. It takes pressure off everyone else and makes Faulkner’s offense harder to defend. If Philo has been the steady engine, Baugh has been the force that makes the whole thing feel more dangerous.
The timing could hardly be better
All of this is happening just as Florida approaches a critical part of the season. The Gators are undefeated, ranked No. 21 in the most recent Poll, and they are about to walk into the biggest kind of atmosphere that college football can offer. A raucous home crowd at The Swamp in what is being billed as the biggest game there in at least five years is not the time for an offense to be vague, indecisive or passive.
That is why the early efficiency under Buster Faulkner matters so much. Florida does not need to pretend it has all the answers yet. But it does need to show that its offensive identity is real. Through three games, it has done exactly that.
And if that identity continues to be powered by Philo and Baugh, Florida will go into the next stage of the season looking less like a team trying to figure things out and more like one that already knows how to impose itself.
