Angela Paxton Texas election remarks came Friday in Round Rock, where she addressed a ticketed meeting of the Texas Federation of Republican Women and urged support for Republicans over individual candidates. “It’s not the people — it’s the seat,” Paxton said. She added, “Because we have more control over that seat and the future when we control the seat — when it’s still in the family, even if we’re mad at them.”

The speech was titled “The Elephant in the Room,” and it came after Paxton had spent months publicly quiet about the Texas Senate race. Her comments marked the first time since she announced she was divorcing Ken Paxton that she appeared to weigh in on his campaign.
Paxton did not name Ken Paxton or John Cornyn in the remarks, even though Ken Paxton had entered the primary three months before her divorce filing and later defeated John Cornyn by a 28-percentage point margin to become the party’s nominee. Her message instead pushed the audience toward a broader party line.

That broader line now sits inside a competitive race against James Talarico, with polls showing him with a narrow lead on average, within the margin of error. Paxton’s comments offered one public signal of where she stands after she said she was filing for divorce on “biblical grounds,” while her original petition cited adultery as grounds for divorce.
She also said, “But if we lose it to the other team, the nuances that we want to fix with maybe a certain candidate are nothing compared to what it’s going to take to get it back, right?” Cheryl Thompson-Draper later wrote that Paxton “NEVER mentioned his name — not even once, but encouraged the women to vote for EVERYONE on ‘OUR R TEAM!’”
The remarks leave the race with one clearer fact: Angela Paxton is treating the seat as the priority, even as her own divorce and Ken Paxton’s campaign remain tied to the same political fight.
