Martin Gero Sees Stargate Invasion Expand 4X Strategy Scope

Stargate Invasion turns Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion into a playable tour through Stargate history. The mod folds in factions, ships, technology, and wars from across the franchise, while an Amazon MGM Stargate series tied to Martin Gero was canceled in June 2026 before filming could begin.

Martin Gero’s canceled series matters because it leaves Stargate fans with one of the few current ways to engage with the property in a new format. Instead of waiting on an official screen return, they can step into a strategy game that lets them build an interstellar civilization, research technology, field enormous fleets, and fight across the same universe that the franchise has spent years expanding.

Stargate SG-1 ran for 10 seasons, then spawned Stargate Atlantis and Stargate Universe, while Stargate Origins arrived as a short-form web series in 2018. Stargate Invasion pulls from that history rather than treating any one era as dominant, which gives the mod a broader reach than a single-series tribute project.

SG-1 to Stargate Atlantis

SG-1 supplies the Tau'ri, Goa'uld, Asgard, Replicators, and Ori, while Stargate Atlantis contributes the Asurans, Wraith, and Travellers. That roster gives the mod real strategic variety: some factions are built around brute force, others around advanced technology, and others around asymmetric pressure, so the game can play differently depending on which side the player chooses.

A 2020 Wraith showcase said the Tau'ri, Asurans, Goa'uld, and Wraith were enabled, with the Asgard still planned and the Replicators, Ori, and Travellers in specialized non-playable roles or under consideration. One Goa'uld Ha'tak design in the mod is based on the version seen during Universe Season 1, which is the sort of deep-cut detail that signals the project is trying to be a full conversion rather than a skin swap.

ModDB and GitHub

The older downloadable build on ModDB focuses primarily on the Tau'ri, Asurans, and Goa'uld, while the public GitHub repository holds the broader mod files and installation instructions. That split tells you where the project sits today: playable enough for fans to try, but still evolving in public rather than arriving as a polished AAA release.

Stargate Invasion is the strongest fan option on the table, but it cannot replace a full-fledged new series or AAA video game. For Longtime Stargate viewers, that is the practical takeaway: if the franchise is going quiet on the official side, the mod is where the universe is still moving, and the next meaningful update will come from the people building it rather than from Amazon MGM.
