Ajer also said it was “not at all” a distraction inside the camp, describing Haaland as someone who is simply trying to do the same as everyone else: wait and see what happens, while keeping the main focus on Wales.
That is a useful reminder that public scrutiny does not always translate into visible disruption. Haaland has built a reputation for staying locked in on the football itself, and Norway’s staff will be pleased that the noise around Manchester City has not, at least outwardly, changed that routine. Stale Solbakken also pointed to Haaland’s usual standard, praising his form and his goalscoring habit.
The timing gives the story extra weight. Thursday’s match in Cardiff at 19:45 BST will be Haaland’s first since the verdict was confirmed, and it comes inside a four-game Nations League window where rhythm matters. Norway need their leading forward to look settled, and the early evidence suggests he does.
