Seven thousand five hundred kilometres, five check points, three countries and two continents make this the show’s first route to Australia. The teams will travel with only a map and a budget of £26 per person a day, while leaving phones, credit cards and home comforts behind.

Ella Eyre and Nana

Ella Eyre will race alongside Nana, her childhood friend, while Jeff Stelling and Matt Stelling, Princess Andre and Junior Andre, and Sam Ryder and Kaz make up the other three pairings. That gives the series four celebrity teams, but no solo act and no room for the kind of comfort that usually comes with televised travel.

Princess Andre will race with her brother Junior Andre, a pairing that keeps the format firmly in family territory. Sam Ryder is teamed with Kaz, his best friend and tour manager, while Jeff Stelling is joined by Matt Stelling, his son.

Kuching to Melbourne

The route begins in Kuching in the Malaysian state of Sarawak in North West Borneo before running across South East Asia to Melbourne, Australia. That geography is doing a lot of the work here: the series is not just adding a new destination, it is sending all four duos across a route that spans three countries and two continents.

Tim Harcourt said, “This year’s pairs navigate a journey that lays bare two extremes of today’s world. We can’t wait to share how they get on. Contestants give unfiltered and honest reactions to the experiences they face that are as demanding as they are joyful. That’s so rare on television and it’s clear audiences love seeing their favourite stars deal with these daring challenges in spectacular worlds.” Jasmyn McGuile added, “Audiences have been asking when the Race might reach Australia, so we are delighted that they will be able to experience this unique journey for the first time in Celebrity Race Across the World. With an adventurous start in Borneo's Sarawak rainforest, another series first, it makes for an unmissable opener for this year’s celebrity teams.”

Autumn and next spring

Celebrity Race Across the World is a 6x60' series for One and iPlayer, and it lands this autumn. Race Across the World returns to One and iPlayer next Spring, so this line-up is the bridge between two runs of a format that keeps widening its map without softening its rules.

For viewers, the useful takeaway is simple: the cast is set, the route is longer than it sounds, and the loss of phones and cash should make every checkpoint decision count. The question now is not who is taking part, but which pair can handle a 7,500 km sprint from Borneo to Melbourne on £26 a day.
